Watch European Pro Surfers Shred a Winter Wonderland in Munich

A trip to Munich makes most people think of beer, bratwurst, and pretzels.

But surfing? Not so much.

Surprisingly, if the land of Oktoberfest is on your travel bucket list, you can catch a wave there. That’s thanks to the Bavarian capital’s Eisbach River, which is home to one of the most famous river waves in the world.

In the post above, a surf-stoked crew has fun surf and snow sessions on the river. German pro surfer Lennard Weinhold, who rides for Rip Curl’s European team, was there to shred.

The video was posted by @alenaclara and captioned:

“Surfing michelins in Munich”

The video shows the group of surfers playing in the snow like big kids and shredding the river while a crowd watches from the river bank.

It’s a beautiful scene. But this isn’t the first time river shred sessions have surfaced.

Last summer we reported on a naked wipeout and river surfing on the Eisbach during the Rapid Jam, a free-for-all sort of competition on the canal.

A few years ago, we covered Dylan Graves and Tanner Gudauskas’ trip to Munich where they visited the Eisbach River and learned all about its surf culture. In fact, they found out that Kelly Slater was once barred from surfing the spot.

Way back in 2017, Australian world-champ Mick Fanning visited Munich to surf the man-made wave and ripped it, naturally.

Most recently, Ben Gravy earned a new claim to fame, and it was surfing Germany’s “longest wave,” but not on the Eisbach. He scored a ferry wake wave on a soft top.
