One of the coolest ski areas to monitor this past offseason was Big Squaw Mountain, also known as Big Moose, in Maine. The non-profit ski area has undergone a variety of improvements over the past six months, including a new drive for their triple chairlift, renovation of the snowmaking pumphouse, repair of the mid-mountain lodge, restoration of their upper mountain trails, and adding a snowcat to service these aforementioned runs.
Unfortunately, the Maine ski area wasn’t immune to the damage seen throughout New England this week. Yesterday, Friends of the Mountain, who operates the ski area, announced that their snowmaking pond saw significant damage from the flooding. Due to this damage, they believe that they won’t be able to operate their snowmaking network this winter.
