For many people who love to wakeboard, you know it is more of a social activity than many other sports might be. Loading up the family and friends onto the wake boat, heading out onto the lake for a day of riding and fun, this is the ethos of many a wakeboarding athlete out there. And for those who have been wakeboarding a long time, you have probably heard about or even tried a side activity to wakeboarding, known as wakesurfing.

Very similar to wakeboarding, but with some key and critical differences, wakesurfing is a really fun activity that is generally not as aggressive, technical, or difficult as wakeboarding. Certainly it does take a significant amount of skill to wakesurf, but once you have the hang of it, the learning curve isn’t nearly as daunting or extensive as a real wakeboarding learning curve.

Basically the nature of wakesurfing is that you are being towed by the wake boat in much the same way you would be towed while wakeboarding. Only the wakesurf board does not have bindings, and is much more geared toward relaxed cruising or a surfing style, as opposed to the more aggressive and trick oriented style of many wakeboarders.

Some people love to wakesurf exclusively and that is all they do, while many wakeboarders simply enjoy wakesurfing to take a break from the more aggressive style and just chill out with some little wake ollies and lip slashes here and there. Regardless of your outlook on wakesurfing or why you love it, we wanted to compile a brief list of some really incredible wakesurf board models for the 2020 season! Stick around and continue reading on below to find out more.

1 – 2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board

2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board

For those wake riding enthusiasts out there looking for a serious wakesurf board, and not just a cheap one to goof around on, consider the 2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board model. Obrien is a huge brand in the wakeboarding space, and their Haze V3 Wakesurf board is a great example of their commitment to quality and style. This is not a wakesurf board for the beginner who has never even tried it before, and actually it is expressly advertised by Obrien as being an Intermediate to Advanced level wakesurf board.

Made of fiberglass and foam, it is extremely important to understand that most wakesurf boards are not constructed with the same level of durability and strength as binding wakeboards are. This is something we wanted to include in our review here because the manufacturer expressly warns about NOT storing wakesurf boards in typical boat board racks, because often times the more fragile wakesurf boards can end up being damaged while stored in these racks.

Featuring a triple fin design, the 2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board has incredibly good control and handling on wakes of any size. Larger riders can rest assured that the 2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board can support riders up to 220 pounds, as long as you buy the 57” model instead of the other option which is the 52” model. Fitted with really nice EVA Foam pads on the deck of the 2020 Obrien Haze V3 Wakesurf Board, this awesome looking blue-green colored wakesurf board retails around $600.00 depending on which retailer you purchase from.

2 – 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board

2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board

For another high quality, brand name wakesurf board for the 2020 season, check out the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board. While not as aggressively designed as the Obrien wakesurf board we just covered previously, the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board is a great addition to our list because it is an option that is a bit more affordable, and is a smaller board for more beginner to intermediate wakesurf riders.

The Connelly Habit wakesurf board is probably a much more casual option to consider adding to your wake gear arsenal, and could be a great buy to have around for the kids to try out during a day on the lake. While not a novelty or toy at all, the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board is certainly a real-deal board, but it is definitely not one of the more high-end or high performance wakesurf boards available today. So if you are on the smaller side, under 190 pounds, this is definitely a solid wakesurf board that can help get you started in this unique sport.

The performance and shaping of the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board is also worth mentioning, since it only has a single 1” fin and features more of a skimboard design than a multi-fin surfboard design. This gives riders even more freedom to develop their own unique riding style, and allows for more freedom of movement to perform wake spins, ollies, and more. The same warning that is common to wakesurf boards is also present with the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board, that owners of this board should never store it in the boat board racks because of possible damage to the board. Retailing around $450.00, the 2020 Connelly Habit Wakesurf Board can make a great addition to anyone’s wakeboarding gear arsenal!

3 – 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board

2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board

Another more aggressive and advanced wakesurf board on our list for the 2020 season is the 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board. This design from storied wakeboard designer, Hyperlite, offers aggressive triple-fin performance and a unique board shaping for phenomenal hold and control on the wake. The 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board is also available in three different sizing options, ranging from 3’9”, 4’7”, and the largest option, which is the 5’3” size.

This also represents a fantastic wakesurf board option for the genuinely larger riders out there, considering that the 5’3” board size can support riders up to 240 pounds! Not many wakesurf boards really have a 240-pound capacity, so this could be a selling point for a larger rider who wants to try wakesurfing.

Featuring the fast rocker design, this wakesurf board gives you the ability to really slam out some serious speed and hold it through the curl. And at the same time, the short profile on this wakesurf board from Hyperlite gives you remarkable control on air and rotational tricks. The 2020 Hyperlite Shim offers the maneuverability you require to really get some air and hit technical maneuvers, and this highly buoyant board is technical enough to take your wakesurf riding to the next level.

The EVA Foam traction pads that come standard on the 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board are some of the best out there, primarily because they cover most of the deck surface in EVA Foam instead of just a couple little spots like other boards do. Featuring a Pin Tail board design, and Mellow Tail Channels, the 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board is a board that is just as comfortable cruising along, as it is riding aggressively and hitting technical maneuvers.

With its layered glass Dura-Shell construction, and EPS Core, the 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board is certainly a durable and reliable wakesurf board. With that being said though, it is still recommended that the board not be stored in boat board racks at any time, because the potential for damage to the board is simply too high. Many wakesurf boards will even have their warranties revoked and not covered if it is found that the board has been stored in boat board racks. Retailing around $500.00, the 2020 Hyperlite Shim Wakesurf Board is a perfect acquisition for any wake enthusiasts who are interested in stepping up their wakesurfing game!
