Since the inception of the “Top 5” in 2021, we’ve yet to see a Championship Tour rookie qualify for the playoff-style championship at Trestles.
Which makes sense: The CT is wildly competitive, and most rookies spend their first year or two on tour taking lumps and learning the system. There are exceptions, of course. Gabe Medina won two of his first six CT events, and had their been a Top 5 when he was a rookie, he easily would have qualified for it.
This year, however, the rookie class — headlined by two percenters Crosby Colapinto and Cole Houshmand — is a banger.
Understudies of Griffin Colapinto, both will be ready for anything the CT throws at them as rookies, including 6- to- 8 foot Pipe slabs, like the ones in the new edit from the Cola Bros YouTube playing above.
A big result at Pipe next month (where they’re more than capable) would set them up for a run at the Top 5 and a world title in their hometown in September.
Wouldn’t that be something?
