Brazilian surfers are famous for their aerial prowess.
From Gabe Medina to Italo Ferreira, Filipe Toledo to Yago Dora, pretty much every Brazilian star is a standout at above-the-lip surfing.
In the 7-minute short above, “There Is A River”, Mateus Herdy and Tomas Hermes draw beautiful lines on a long rippable point, keeping their fins in the wave the entire way. Sure, Herdy — like the aforementioned bunch above — is also a star in the air, but it’s a nice change to watch him surf entirely on the face.
While Herdy just missed qualifying for the CT this year, with railwork like this, he’ll surely qualify next time around. And as we’ve seen with Florence and Toledo, airs help get you on the CT, but it’s technically perfect rail surfing that ultimately wins championships.
